Finally...It's been a year since I started my young adult paranormal romance! This baby is going through draft after draft of major editing. When I finished the first draft, I ended up with 40k words. I was not happy about that at all. Now after, possibly, the 7th or 8th draft taking place, it's 90k words! (so far, so good)

And I always thought I understood the show not tell, but thanks to my beta reader, she's made me realize that I tell WAY too much. If any of you are confused with it, I may be able to help you. I'll give you an example. Instead of saying that the girl was flirting with the hot guy(which is telling, of course), you could describe how she was flirting such as: She pushed his shoulder gently, her cheeks rushing with warmth. She muffled a giggle with the palm of her hand as he smiled at her.

Yea, may not be the best sentence in the world, but it gets the point across. Now that I'm showing instead of telling, my novel is seeming to come alive off the page.

Also, when writing, I've learned that it's so important to incorporate the five sense into your novel. When my beta reader read through my first chapter, she couldn't even tell if the narrator was a boy or girl. That was a huge no, no for me. If someone couldn't even imagine what my character looked like, then how on Earth were they supposed to imagine the rest of the novel? Good thing my beta reader told me, or I'd be getting slammed with rejections by every agent possible.

And my goal for sending it out this month has been changed. This novel has much more editing than I ever expected, and I want it to be as perfect as possible. Hopefully, I can finish it by the end of this month, though.

So again, thanks to my beta reader (you know who you are), and for anyone else reading this, keep writing!

Me too :)
And I like the icon! That should be my New Year's Resolution, too.

I'm am very skeptical when it comes to handing off my manuscript, so I'm surprised I even found one myself. But I thought if they send me part of theirs and I send part of mine, then what's the harm? But that's just my way of thinking. And maybe I will post a snippet from my novel :)
